This is rowing’s latest Olympic discipline in the form of Beach Sprints, a fast and furious branch of the sport that is very definitely the wilder cousin of classic rowing and sculling.
The athlete starts on the beach, runs down the sand to their boat which is held in place in the water, gets in sculls around two slalom buoys and then turns around another buoy and then races back. The race finished by getting out of the boat & sprinting back up the sand. The whole race covers about 500m and requires strength, speed, endurance as well as determination and willingness to cope with ever changing conditions.
We are set up to coach the boat skills of slalom and turns on Oulton Broad to new beginners to the sport, in our coastal solos as well as take the more experienced onto the beach to learn the more specific beach sprint skills.
